Ballinskelligs bay is perhaps 30 square miles of open water - exposed to everything from northerlies, through westerlies to south-easterlies.

Take off point
one is from a sandy beach opposite Waterville Golf Course.

N-W is side shore with flat conditions and not much wind will get you going.

Westerlies to southerlies give the wildest conditions, with steep chop if the wind gets up. In S-W it becomes necessary to contend with shore-break.

About two Km West of Waterville town. Take the beach road to the golf course.

Take off point
two is from a sandy beach in the northern crescent of the bay.

This is the only really worthwhile spot for south easterlies in the area to which sneem.com has any relevance, so it is worth keeping in mind. S-E would be choppy with some shore-break depending on wind strength.

S-W to N-W is cross-on to cross-off-shore with waves decreasing the further northerly the wind goes

4.5 Km west of Waterville on the Caherciveen road -Take a left turn for Ballinskelligs, then 5.5 Km and turn sharp left at cross-roads down to beach

Do not park on the beach. If you get caught out the tide will get your car!!

Don't get caught out in a dying off shore wind!!

These locations are not recommended for solo sailing in strong winds
